Practice Enhancement - "The Coalition has
made it clear to government that it believes primary
care is NOT in need of major reform. Instead, we believe
that we need "Family Practice Enhancement"
in order to provide quality, accessible care for our
patients. Study after study shows that the care we provide
for our patients ranks very high indeed. So why on earth
does the Ontario government feel the need to reform
it?" Click

"...In addition to examining why the Ontario Family
Health Network (OFHN) has failed to convince more than
a handful of family physicians to give up fee-for-service
and join a family health network, Dr. Mark also revealed
for the first time the Coalition’s solution – “family
practice enhancement” – for improving the way primary
care is delivered in Ontario."

2002 Political Activity Begins
- Representatives of the Coalition of Family Physicians
of Ontario (COFP) spent the weekend of October 6th,
2002 lobbying MPPs, party officials and nominated candidates
at the Ontario Liberal Convention at the Sheraton Hotel
in Toronto.
During our time there, we managed to talk with everyone
Liberal MPP in attendance, along with 10-20 nominated
candidates about health-care funding, primary care reform,
the medical review committee and the OMA Dues Act (Rand).
What COFP had to say was well received by party members,
and we've been invited to brief their Health Critic,
Sandra Pupatello, and key policy people on these important
issues later this month.
We were also successful in getting a number of the MPPs
and candidates to agree to attend a series of lobby
dinners we will be hosting over the next two months.
During our time together, we expect to talk about health-care
funding, primary care reform, the medical review committee
and the OMA Dues Act (Rand). We also plan on asking
them what they've been hearing at the door about health
care from their constituents, as well as asking what
they think we should do to improve our health-care system.
If you have any questions you'd like us to ask these
elected officials on your behalf, please don't hesitate
to contact us (at dmark@cofp.com)
and we'd be more than happy to accommodate you.
Representatives of COFP will also attend the PC Convention
at the end of October, and will be arranging to brief
the Leader and Health Critic of the NDP later this fall.
MRC Breakthrough - On
behalf of Ontario’s Family Physicians,
the COFP has maintained ongoing contact with
the Chair of the Medical Review Committee
(MRC), Dr. Barnett Giblon, to pursue positive
changes to the MRC process. With regards to
clarifying the MRC judging process, we are pleased
that Dr. Giblon agrees with us that family physicians
should be aware of the criteria the MRC uses when performing
an audit. With his permission, the COFP is giving
you the “scorecard” that is used to judge
the A003A general assessment code.
