  • Fall 2002 Political Activity Begins - Representatives of the Coalition of Family Physicians of Ontario (COFP) spent the weekend of October 6th, 2002 lobbying MPPs, party officials and nominated candidates at the Ontario Liberal Convention at the Sheraton Hotel in Toronto.

During our time there, we managed to talk with everyone Liberal MPP in attendance, along with 10-20 nominated candidates about health-care funding, primary care reform, the medical review committee and the OMA Dues Act (Rand). What COFP had to say was well received by party members, and we've been invited to brief their Health Critic, Sandra Pupatello, and key policy people on these important issues later this month.

We were also successful in getting a number of the MPPs and candidates to agree to attend a series of lobby dinners we will be hosting over the next two months.  During our time together, we expect to talk about health-care funding, primary care reform, the medical review committee and the OMA Dues Act (Rand). We also plan on asking them what they've been hearing at the door about health care from their constituents, as well as asking what they think we should do to improve our health-care system.

If you have any questions you'd like us to ask these elected officials on your behalf, please don't hesitate to contact us (at dmark@cofp.com) and we'd be more than happy to accommodate you.

Representatives of COFP will also attend the PC Convention at the end of October, and will be arranging to brief the Leader and Health Critic of the NDP later this fall.

  • Doctor shortages are being felt by the public now.  Click to go to our Public Information page on Doctor Supply to read more.

Also, be sure to see our several new Media Releases for recent articles as we communicate our views through the media to you and the public.

  • Stop complaining and talk to your MPP.  How?  See our Political Lobbying page in the practice tips area to see how easy it is to have your voice heard by the government.  (We can't do it all ourselves!)
  • Please visit the public information section to see what is going on with the health care system.  This is designed to help bring the public up to date with health changes medically and politically (e.g. international travel medicine, health cuts & etc.).
  • You can easily become involved by helping us know what is happening in your community.   We will post your information on our web site.  You can also become your base hospital's COFP liaison representative to help bring our information more effectively to your hospital's physicians.
