CPSO
District 10 Election
September
23 , 2008 - To all Toronto physicians - Help Us Continue
to Make a Difference
Dear
Colleague,
Once
again, the Coalition of Family Physicians of Ontario needs
your help in order for us to continue to make a difference
for the family doctors of Ontario.
As
you may be aware, elections for positions to the Council
of the College of Physicians and Surgeons (CPSO) are upon
us. In order to influence college policy and stop them from
making any more ill informed choices, we need to elect good
quality candidates who actually listen to the grassroots
physicians' point of view. You should soon receive your
ballot from the CPSO.
This
year, the COFP candidates we recommend you support are:
- Dr.
Mark Gabel
- Dr.
Kumar Gupta
- Dr.
Jack Mandel

Negotiapause?
August
12 , 2008 - One month has passed since Ontario Medical Association
President, Dr. Ken Arnold, informed the doctors of Ontario
that the OMA/MOHLTC negotiations had paused and
that the Ministry had advised the OMA they would not be
in a position to meet until at least Labour Day . So, is
this a negotiapause – a little break in the action
at the table to give both negotiating teams a rest – or
has something else happened here? We believe that the OMA
and MOHLTC are philosophically so far apart that negotiations
have actually broken down – plain and simple .
There is no other valid explanation.
Or
in the immortal words of Yogi Berra: “It's like d éjà
vu all over again.”

A
COFP Bulletin Regarding the CPSO - THIS
IS NOT THE SAME AS THE OMA MEMBER ALERT
January
17, 2008 - The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
(CPSO) has proposed a new policy that will impact family
physicians, called “Establishing a Physician-Patient Relationship”
and modified an existing policy on “Ending the Physician-Patient
Relationship”. The Ontario Medical Association (OMA) has
cautioned the profession about 3 other different
CPSO policy proposals. We will not repeat the thoughtful
concerns the OMA raised about those particular policy proposals.

CPSO
Council Passes New Policy on Accepting New Patients
November 21, 2008
- Despite our concerns that this new policy would further
worsen the family doctor shortage, CPSO council approved
this new policy on Accepting
New Patients. We believe that the the law of "unintended
consequences" will result because of this.
In the CPSO's spirit of doing its best for the public and
Ontario's doctors, we believe that family physicians will
view accepting new patients at increased risk of a complaint
to the CPSO and will completely stop accepting any new patients
into their already over-burdoned practices.

New Contract - Part 2

To
all Ontario Physicians
Re:
Proposed New Compensation Contract (Part 2)
As
you know, the Coalition of Family Physicians of Ontario
(COFP) has decided to NOT SUPPORT
the new deal. Our previous bulletin generated a tremendous
amount of discussion, which we believe deserves further
comment on our part.
The COFP
is astounded and dismayed at the partisan approach taken by
the OMA to sell the proposed deal. We are also deeply perturbed
by its attempts to portray us as misrepresenting the deal
and misleading Ontario's doctors. Please
